My Story - Carolyn Ledowsky

Founder | Naturopath | Researcher | Genetic Health Educator
I’m Carolyn Ledowsky, founder of MTHFR Support Australia—the world’s only dedicated MTHFR clinic. I'm a naturopath, herbalist, nutritionist and passionate researcher, and for over 15 years, I’ve worked at the intersection of genetics and chronic health—helping patients uncover the root causes of their symptoms when conventional approaches fall short.
I hold multiple qualifications, including a Bachelor of Health Science (Naturopathy) with Honours, a Bachelor of Herbal Medicine, a Bachelor of Naturopathy, an Advanced Diploma of Naturopathy, and a Diploma of Nutrition. My studies have also taken me into the world of genetics, completing coursework at Duke University and the University of Maryland in the U.S.
Driven by Research. Grounded in Care.
Currently, I’m completing my PhD at the University of Technology Sydney (UTS), where my research explores the differences between folic acid and methyl folate in couples with recurrent pregnancy loss. This work builds on my Honours thesis, which investigated the prescribing patterns of folate forms among Australian practitioners highlighting the growing preference for 5-MTHF over folic acid, especially in cases involving MTHFR polymorphisms.
My recent journal publications reflect the potential effects of MTHFR mutations on fertility in both men and women—a field I am deeply passionate about, especially given the global rise in infertility.

Currently, I am completing my PhD at the University of Technology Sydney (UTS), where my research investigates the effects of different forms of folate specifically folic acid versus methyl folate (5-MTHF)—in couples experiencing recurrent pregnancy loss.

Why I Founded MTHFR Support

I established MTHFR Support after years of seeing patients who, despite exhaustive testing and numerous consultations, still felt unwell. Many of them had underlying genetic variations—especially in the MTHFR gene—that weren’t being addressed.
The clinic was born out of a need to bridge the gap between genetic susceptibility and practical, evidence-based care. The MTHFR gene plays a vital role in the methylation cycle, which affects:
- Anxiety and depression
- Hormonal balance
- Pregnancy and fertilit
- ADD/ADHD
- Detoxification
- Fat metabolism and more
Understanding these pathways can be life-changing.
More Than a Clinic - A Global Movement
Over the years, I’ve seen firsthand the transformation that’s possible when people understand their bodies at a genetic level. It’s not just about treating symptoms—it’s about empowering people with knowledge and personalised care.
Today, I also coach health practitioners and doctors around the world, teaching them how to apply this knowledge in clinical settings to improve outcomes for their patients. This work is changing the way healthcare is practiced.
My Promise to You
I don’t do this work for titles or accolades. I do it because I care deeply about my patients. I work tirelessly to get to the heart of what’s going on, and I’m here to walk beside you on your journey to better health—with compassion, science, and experience guiding the way.
